Just after the new year I had the awesome opportunity to work with yet another rockstar team on an editorial shoot and I wanted to share with you all some of the juicy details! Heathyrre Kautz came in to work some of her awesome makeup magic and the extremely talented Bogdan Morozovskiy was nice enough to grip for me(as well as tie me to a ladder, but more on that later).
I had a set of cheap metal drop lights hanging around(pun intended) and felt the need to make use of them. They were hung from the rafters in our studio in front of a huge black painted wooden doorway that, with the help of a killer couch we had, became my set.
We put together four looks that would come together with the plan we had in mind to build a darker, moody feeling editorial with a strong contrast and just a slight hint of a rocker chic style.
Lighting for this set was accomplished by an AB1600 in a white beauty dish high on a boom and a Bowens Gemini 500 in a big softbox on the floor for just enough fill. Another AB1600 with a strip box was skimmed along the wall to give it, as well as the lightbulbs some definition. The bulbs were lit, but when you compare 60 watts from a lightbulb with 600 from a strobe, you don’t get much light. These were all shot with a 5D Mark 2 and a 50mm and 85mm lens. Primes rock!
